Privacy Policy

This policy explains what riddleup.com collects when you read riddles or play our games, why, and what control you have. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
- There are no accounts. You never give us a name, an email address or a password to read riddles.
- We do not sell personal data. There is nothing to sell.
- We use analytics to count page views, and cookies to remember your theme choice and your game scores.
- If advertising is enabled, ad partners set their own cookies - that is described below.
Information we collect
Information you give us. Only what you type into the contact form (your name, email address and message) or into a game leaderboard (a nickname of your choosing). Please do not use a real name as a leaderboard nickname, and please do not enter a child's real name.
Information collected automatically. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp, referring page) and aggregate analytics: which pages are viewed, from which country and on what kind of device. We use this to understand which riddles people want, not to identify individuals.
Game state. Our games (Riddle Quiz, 10-Second Riddle, Riddle Streak, Riddle Survival, Word Scramble, Emoji Riddle, Number Sequence) keep a session on our server while you play, and set a long-lived cookie so a returning browser is recognised on the leaderboard. That cookie contains a random identifier - no name, no email, nothing that identifies you personally.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them will not stop you reading riddles; it will reset your theme choice and disconnect you from your leaderboard scores.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic. It records page views, approximate location (country/city level), device type and referring source. IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage. We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles of visitors, and we have not enabled cross-site advertising features.
Advertising
Riddle Up may carry advertising to stay free. Where ads are served by Google AdSense, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
Children's privacy
A large part of Riddle Up is written for children, and we have designed it so that a child can use the whole site without giving us anything. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. There is no sign-up, no profile and no messaging between users. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form or a leaderboard nickname, email us and we will delete it promptly.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers that make the site work - our hosting provider, our content delivery network and our analytics provider - and only to the extent they need it. We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose information where required by law.
Retention
Server logs are kept for a short operational period. Analytics data is retained in aggregate. Leaderboard entries (a nickname and a score) are kept until the leaderboard is reset or you ask us to remove them. Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to answer you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing. Because we hold almost nothing tied to an identity, the practical version is usually: clearing your cookies removes your link to everything we store. For anything else, email hello@riddleup.com and we will respond.
Security
The Site is served over HTTPS and game submissions are rate-limited. No website can promise perfect security, but there is very little here worth stealing - which is itself a deliberate design choice.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change, and the "last updated" date above will change with it.
